Trade Away Thursday - February 25th, 2010

I always need to go through my books and weed out the ones I have either read already or probably won't be getting to anytime soon. And I'm sure you do too, right?

Each week I will be picking one book to post on PaperBackSwap. This will make me happy because I will be getting rid of a book (to make room for new books of course!) and someone else will be happy because they will be receiving a new book! Win win situation, don't you think?

You can play along too. If you decide to purge along with me, leave a comment with a link to your Trade Away Thursday blog post.

Oh and if you are interested in the book I am giving away today, please leave a comment with your PaperBackSwap ID.

If more than one person wants the book, I will randomly pick a person and post the book to them. Please make sure the book is on your WL and on Auto Request.

The book will be available for 24 hours and then it will be posted on PBS if there are no takers.

You have to be a follower of my blog to be eligible for the giveaway.

Release date: April 27th 2010

Summary:

When friends stop trusting each other, Darkness is there to fan the flames….

Things have turned black at the House of Night. Zoey Redbird’s soul has shattered. With everything she’s ever stood for falling apart, and a broken heart making her want to stay in the Otherworld forever, Zoey’s fading fast. It’s seeming more and more doubtful that she will be able pull herself back together in time to rejoin her friends and set the world to rights. As the only living person who can reach her, Stark must find a way to get to her. But how? He will have to die to do so, the Vampire High Council stipulates. And then Zoey will give up for sure. Enter BFF Stevie Rae. She wants to help Z but she has massive problems of her own. The rogue Red Fledglings are acting up, and this time not even Stevie Rae can protect them from the consequences. Her kinda boyfriend, Dallas, is sweet but too nosy for his own good. The truth is, Stevie Rae’s hiding a secret that might be the key to getting Zoey home but also threatens to explode her whole world.

In the middle of the whole mess is Aphrodite: ex-Fledgling, trust-fund baby, total hag from Hell (and proud of it). Aphrodite’s loyalty can swing a lot of different ways, but right now Zoey’s fate hangs in the balance.

Three girls… playing with fire… if they don’t watch out, everyone will get Burned.

Come Hell or High Water by Michele Bardsley

Everybody makes mistakes-and my first one was named Connor, a heart- stealing Scottish hottie. I thought our night together was the beautiful beginning to a love story, which turned out to be my second mistake. I, Phoebe Allen, lifelong Broken Heart resident and vampire, am now mated to a half-demon.

Thankfully Phoebe's four-year-old son Danny is safely away at Disneyworld with his human father. Because Phoebe's right in the middle of major paranormal drama, helping Connor and his rag-tag group of friends retrieve part of an ancient talisman in order to ward off Connor's vicious stepmother, an uber-demon named Lilith. Phoebe swears she isn't falling for any of Connor's demon charm. But still, he's willing to do anything to protect her and prevent demons from storming into Broken Heart. And her undead heart can't resist a bad boy with identity issues...
This is the 6th book in the Broken Heart series. It takes place about 5 years after the initial towns people were turned. This was a very good book! It was a bit different from her previous five books as the majority of this book did not take place in the actual town of Broken Heart, but mostly in surrounding areas. It was still a very funny book, as I've come to expect from Michele Bardsley. I enjoyed getting to know the characters of Connor and Phoebe, as well as coming back to visit friends from previous books.
One of the only questions I had about this book is why does every author name the bad demon Lilith? lol Not that it took anything away from the book, I am just curious. I can think of at least 3 other instances where the bad demon characters are named Lilith. Must be a popular demon name. :) You won't be disappointed if you read this book. I would recommend reading the five books before this one if you haven't read any of the Broken Heart books yet. They don't technically have to be read in order, but there are reoccuring characters in all the books and they are easier to understand if you've read the previous books. All in all, I'd give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to read the next book. Good thing I'm one of Michele's minions and already have access to the ARC. ;)

"Aren't you lucky I'm not one of them?" Fortunately, he liked it when I teased him. He grabbed me, arms around my arms so that I couldn't even hug him back, and he kissed me soundly on the forehead.

Tempt Me With Darkness by Shayla Black

He’s an immortal knight hungering for satisfaction. . . .
As soon as Marrok sees Olivia Gray, he’s sure they met in eons past. He’s felt her soft, gentle curves writhing in pleasure beneath his own powerful body. . . Morganna! For centuries, towering Marrok, once the mightiest of King Arthur’s warriors, has endured a terrible curse the witch cast upon him when he spurned the witch.
She’s a modern woman about to discover ancient magic. . . .
Olivia shares a mystical—and irresistible—connection with brooding Marrok. Soon after the sexy warrior appears in her erotic dreams, he abducts her, demanding she uncurse him. Their intense passion is more powerful—and intimate—than either of them has ever known. Olivia may be the key to unlocking the diary that will break Morganna’s hold on his life. But in the wrong hands, the book also holds the power to destroy magickind. As they search for answers, a ruthless wizard returned from exile is building an army of evil. When he discovers Marrok and Olivia have the diary, only their love—with the help of a powerful group of magical Brethren—can save them.
I LOVED this book! What a wonderful start to a new series! This book had everything - romance, action and engaging characters. I wasn't quite sure I was going to like this book in the beginning, but once I got a few chapters into it, I couldn't stop reading. You get to meet a bunch of other interesting characters and as the book progresses the author describes the characters in a way that makes you want to read their books. I'm glad I got all three books in the series at once, so I could read them quickly! Now the only problem I'm going to have is waiting for the next book in the series to come out. :)

Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins

When Grace Emerson's ex-fiance starts dating her younger sister, extreme measures are called for. To keep everyone from obsessing about her love life, Grace announces that she's seeing someone. Someone wonderful. Someone handsome. Someone completely made up. Who is this Mr. Right? Someone...exactly unlike her renegade neighbor Callahan O'Shea. Well, someone with his looks, maybe. His hot body. His knife-sharp sense of humor. His smarts and big heart.

Whoa. No. Callahan O'Shea is not her perfect man! Not with his unsavory past. So why does Mr. Wrong feel so...right?

I loved this book! I like books with bad boys in them and Callahan is definitely portrayed as a bad boy! He's just gotten out of prison after a 4 year stay and has moved in next door to Grace. I like Kristan Higgins' books because they seem to portray real life situations. I also like this book because Callahan is now a house flipper and that is something I am interested in. Grace's family gets on my nerves a bit in this book, but over all the story was very very good. This book, just like the last Kristin Higgins book I read, was very funny, so if you are interested in funny romances, please read this book!

Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins

This catch of the day could be the dish of a lifetime!

First Date à la MaggieTake one lovelorn diner owner (me).
A generous helping of nosy local gossips.
A dollop of envy at married sister's perfect life.
A splash of divine intervention (my matchmaking priest).

Combine ingredients with one adorable puppy, add a strong but silent lobsterman with a hidden heart of gold . . . and watch the sparks fly.

This was the first Kristan Higgins book I have read. It was a GREAT book! I really enjoyed the characters and the setting of Maine, was something I haven't read much about. I enjoyed learning about local customs, especially lobster fishing. The book was very funny and the romance was sweet. I liked the character of Malone because he was portrayed as a smart man of few words. Not everyone likes to talk all the time and I'm glad to have read about this character. Reading this book prompted me to read a few more of Kristan Higgins books and I'm really glad I did. Over all, this was a very good book.

New Year, New Start

I've decided that it would be a good idea to start my blog up again. I'm working on updating it right now and I should have some new reviews up today. I am going to work backwards and start with reviews of all the books I've read so far this year. I hope to have some new books to review very soon. Thanks for sticking with me everyone!

Kristen
